Hair Care

Pre-Installation

Always wash your hair extensions before the first installation. You can use a sulfate-free, non alcohol-based, clarifying shampoo and/or a moisture rich shampoo. Follow with a conditioner. For best results, leave conditioner in hair for at least 15 minutes. If you are able to leave the conditioner in for longer, that is also recommended. This ensures even softer, silkier results.

Installation

When installing your hair extensions, to ensure the longevity of the hair wefts, do not consistently pierce the needle through the hair wefts. Use the under and over method when sewing your hair wefts as much as possible. Bring the needle under the weft and then over the top and only through the weft periodically or at the end of each row to anchor wefts down and to decrease the amount of possible shedding.

Do not split the wefts. KAE LUX hair wefts are machine sewn and double wefted for security. If the wefts are split, this will break down the enforcement and strength of the wefts.

If desired, you can seal your wefts with a weft sealer product. We recommend using the fold over method when sewing your wefts down, instead of cutting the weft at the end of each row. This also helps to decrease the amount of possible shedding. After installation, brush or comb through hair to remove any loose hair strands.

 Regular Maintenance

We recommend washing your hair once every 1-2 weeks for straight hair and 1-2 times per week for curly/wavy hair. If there is build up on your extensions or it feels heavy, it is time to shampoo your hair. We recommend a clarifying shampoo, but always follow with a moisture rich conditioner. Leave conditioner in for at least 15 minutes.

When washing the hair, do not massage or rub the hair against itself. This can cause tangling. Wash hair using a smoothing, downward motion from top to bottom of hair strands. Rinse thoroughly, gently towel dry to absorb any excess water and apply a leave-in hair conditioner. Always air dry. For no-heat curls, while hair is still damp, set hair on rollers and let hair dry naturally.

If you choose to use hot tools – blow dryer, flat iron, curling wand, apply a heat protectant first and we recommend a light hair serum for a sleeker look.

Comb hair with a wide tooth comb to start and a brush subsequently.

Always tie, or wrap your hair up at night and wear a hair bonnet to sleep. Try our KAE LUX Satin Bonnet or KAE LUX Hair Scarf. Do not sleep on wet hair.

Wavy and Curly Hair Maintenance

After washing and combing through hair with wide tooth comb, scrunch hair gently to enhance wave or curl pattern.

While hair is damp, apply a dime sized amount of anti-frizz hair serum, curl cream or curl mouse. Continue to scrunch product through hair and style as desired. Allow hair to air dry.

To refresh waves and curls during the week, spray a mixture of your favourite conditioner and water or a leave-in conditioner (You can make this mixture yourself by using an empty spray bottle), plus any previously mentioned curl enhancing product. Make sure not to overload hair with too much product.

Touching wavy or curly hair too much, and brushing hair when its dry will result in frizzy or puffy hair. We recommend always combing or brushing hair while damp.

You can braid, twist, tie or put flexible rods in hair at night, under a satin bonnet to sleep.

Swimming and Water Activities

Comb hair and make sure your hair is detangled. Put hair into a braid(s) before going into the water. Never wear a swimming cap, as they may cause tangling.

If you plan to get your hair wet, soak your hair with plain water beforehand. When hair is dry it soaks up more salt water and chlorine and therefore, sustains more damage when swimming. Rinse hair thoroughly with plain water after swimming and follow up with a moisture rich shampoo and a deep conditioning treatment.
